Applied Sociology Fall 2016

This course teaches students how to apply sociological concepts, theories, and methodologies to social issues. Students work directly with a social service or social justice organization. After learning about the needs of the community partner they work with the instructor, the community partner and each other to develop a research project and present their findings to key stakeholders.

This semester students worked with the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota (ACLU-MN) to examine how Somali parents in the Mankato community feel about they way their children are disciplined in schools.
